Jana Oliver's third spellbinding Demon Trappers novel - following The Demon Trapper's Daughter and Soul Thief - brings all new thrills, as Riley Blackthorne takes on demons, love... and the future of the human race.

The days are growing darker for 17-year-old demon trapper Riley Blackthorne. With her father’s reanimated body back safely, Beck barely speaking to her because of a certain hunky Fallen angel, and a freshly-made deal with Lucifer, she has enough on her hands to last a normal teenage lifetime. Though she bargained with Heaven to save his life, her ex-boyfriend Simon has told the Vatican’s Demon Hunters that she’s working with Hell. So now she’s in hiding, at the top of everyone’s most-wanted list.

But it’s becoming clear that this is bigger than Riley, and rapidly getting out of control: something sinister is happening in Atlanta… or someone. The demons are working together for the first time ever and refusing to die, putting civilians in harm’s way. Riley thinks she might know who’s behind it all, but who’s going to believe her? Caught between her bargain with Heaven and her promise to Lucifer, Riley fears the final war is coming – and it may be closer than anyone thinks

Oh, there are no words for how much I love this series, and now, having read the third installment, my affection for it (and Beck!) only grows.

Forgiven picks up at the end of book 2 of the Demon Trapper’s Series (Soul Thief for those of us in North America, and Forbidden for those who reside in the UK) ends, and Riley is in a whole mess of trouble. Her father is essentially a zombie. She has a fallen angel haunting her dreams, and Beck (with whom she has a very complicated relationship with at the best of times) is pissed at her.

Oh yeah, and the Demon Hunters from Rome, the so-called “good guys” have decided she’s the source of all their problems.

Riley’s life is getting pretty tough, so what does she do?

She gets tougher.

Seriously, I adore this series. The book bounces between Riley’s point of view and Beck’s (for whom my love grows ever stronger with each book…especially after about page 160 in this one. I may have squee-d) as they deal with the fallout of Riley making a deal with both heaven and hell, and as they find out that Lucifer isn’t the only big bad out to get them.

The relationships, as always, make the book for me. Riley is different things to different people. She’s a daughter, a friend, a fighter and a lover, and watching her interact with the people she cares about really makes this series something more than just your typical YA paranormal.

Fabulous addition to the series.

I can’t wait for book 4!

Happy Reading!

  1. There is so much going on in this book that it is amazing the author handled the plot so incredibly well. In Forgiven, Riley has to handle the consequences of hanging around a hot fallen angel and the deal she made with Lucifer. She has a lot of convincing to do if she doesn't want to be shipped to Rome, because the Hunters are suspicious of what had happened with her and Ori and they believe she is working for Hell. Beck has Riley on a short leash and Riley still has no clue what exactly Lucifer wants with her, not to mention that there are new zombie-ish type of creatures roaming around and causing chaos and nobody has any idea who created them and for what purpose. Riley has to figure everything out before it is too late to stop the rising Armageddon, and it's the perfect chance to prove herself to everyone who doubts her abilities.
