Cover-Judgers Anonymous - Reckless by Cornelia Funke

Never judge a book by its cover.

If you've read my blog, you've probably heard me refer to myself as a shameless (SHAMELESS!) cover-judger. I know, I'm seeking help. But I don't think I'm the only one out there who does it.

So I invite you, readers, to share your opinion, and maybe we can find a cure for this problem together...or not.

I haven't done one of these for AGES...but this book came in for me from publisher recently, and I've got to tell you, the cover really made a difference for me with this one!

So let's have a look, shall we?...

Beyond the mirror, the darkest fairy tales come alive. . .

For years, Jacob Reckless has been escaping to another world--a world behind the mirror, where witches haunt the forests and fairies and dwarfs roam. A world for treasure hunts and magnificent quests--but also a world locked in a deadly war.

Jacob's secret seems safe, until one day his younger brother Will follows him, to disastrous consequence. Faced with a curse that is quickly turning Will to stone, the Reckless brothers are thrust into a race against time to find a cure before one of them is lost forever.

Inspired by the Brothers Grimm, master storyteller Cornelia Funke introduces a lush, enchanting landscape of fairy tales and legends re-imagined as never before. Reckless is a thrilling adventure and a tale of heroism, filled with danger, mystery, and above all, magic.

The cover on the left is the original (hardcover) cover, and I've got to say...it does NOTHING for me.  NOTHING.  I have never even NOTICED this book before.

Then, I was at the store, and sitting sweetly amongst the new releases was the cover on the right.

Hello, Gorgeous!

I was hooked.

So what say you?  What do you think about the covers?  Love 'em?  Hate 'em?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. I wasn't attracted to Reckless until the brand new cover came out. I constantly cringed at the creepy black one, but I'm totally digging the new one. I actually read and reviewed the novel last month =)

  2. I wouldn't have picked up th book with the left cover. It doesn't pique my interest. But I LOVE the right one, and now I want to read the book.

"My Name is The Crazy Bookworm and I AM a cover-judger" :(...I need help too.

  3. Cornelia Funke is one of my all-time favorite authors, and this book definetly did not change that. I loved the Inkheart trilogy, and how creative it was, so when I first saw this book, I had to read it. It is so interesting, and I love that it has what I like to have in most books, action, thrill, darkness, and love.
