Lisa McMann Author Signing Toronto

Last Wednesday I attended Lisa McMann's Cryer's Cross book signing in Toronto. I've never been to a signing before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, and I think this one was a little skewed due to the terrible (awful-no good-very bad) weather we were having that day, which turned my twenty-minute drive to the bookstore into an hour-and-a-half drive.

But I persevered, and for that I was rewarded.

It was a small event, due to the weather, but it was a great time.

First, Lisa shared with us a little bit about Cryer's Cross (which I haven't read yet, though I loved her Wake Trilogy), and then she broke out the big guns, and read us a couple chapters of her upcoming YA/Middle-Grade dystopian novel, The Unwanteds.

Just FYI, The Unwanteds was amazing. I sat and listened to Lisa reading, and had to tell myself that No, rushing the stage and snatching the book out of Lisa McMann's hands was a bad idea. So I didn't. But I really, really wanted to. (please notice my restraint).

I also discovered that it's really, really hard to take a good picture of someone while they're talking (or in Lisa's case, reading out loud).

Lisa also handed out some "dead body" silly bands.

Hint: They're not actually dead bodies. I'm pretty sure they're soccer players. The BF discovered they have tiny cleats.
Lisa was also nice enough to give me a big handful of the "dead body" sillybands, to give away on the blog. So, if you'd like one, send me an email at gkgrlbk@gmail.com, and I'll mail you one (first come, first serve).

Lisa was kind enough to sign my books "To GeekGirl", which I adore her for. Because I am just that geeky.

All in all, despite the terrible-awful-no good-very bad weather, Lisa McMann made my first author signing a great experience. She was lovely and welcoming and we all had a great time.
